Scripps Memorial Hospital Rose Garden
JANUARY
Middle to end of month prune roses (pruning party)
Cultivate soil around each rose and bed. Dormant spray when not raining for at least three days with:
1. Lilly/Miller Polysol Summer and Dormant Spray Concentrate.
A week after spraying fertilize with 1 cup GROPOWER PLUS and 1/2 cup SOPOMAG. Work in soil around each rose. Mulch with compost (available from Miramar Landfill Greenery)
FEBRUARY
Fertilize with GROPOWER PLUS (1cup) and SOPOMAG (1/2 cup ) per plant.
When leaves start to unfurl spray with ORGANA Foliar Spray (2 Tablespoons per gallon of water.
Use CITRALL a fungicide and pesticide (2 Tablespoons per gallon of water) at sign of infestations. May also use Rose Protector spray.
MARCH
At first sign of disease, spray with fungicide and or pesticide.
Fertilize each rose with GROPOWER PLUS (1cup) and SOPOMAG (1/2 cup). Water soil well. Weekly remove diseased leaves and clean debris from under bushes. Spray every two weeks with ORGANA Foliar Spray.
APRIL
Spray with insecticide and or fungicide every two weeks or as needed.
Fertilize each rose and water soil well. After first bloom, deadhead spent blooms, remove diseased leaves and clean debris from under bushes. Strip bottom 12 inches of leaves from bushes to increase air circulation. Spray every two weeks with ORGANA Foliar Spray.
MAY
Continue monthly feeding and water soil well.
Spray with CITRALL or Rose Protector to control thrips, aphids and mites. Spray every two weeks with ORGANA Foliar Spray.
Deadhead spent blooms, remove diseased leaves and clean debris under bushes.
JUNE/JULY
Continue same as May.
AUGUST
Prune moderately.
Continue to fertilize and water soil well. Spray for disease and insects as needed. Mulch with compost or bark. Deadhead spent blooms, remove diseased leaves or canes and clean debris from under bushes. Spray every two weeks with ORGANA.
SEPTEMBER
Spray with fungicides and insecticides as needed.
Fertilize each bush. Spray every two weeks with ORGANA. Water soil well. Deadhead spent blooms, remove diseased leaves and clean debris from under bushes.
OCTOBER
Remove all leaves affected with disease.
No more spraying or feeding. Thin out weak and crossing canes.
NOVEMBER
Continue same as October. May continue use of ORGANA.
DECEMBER
Continue same as November.
