Schoolyard Gardening Grant Application

For the school year 2007-2008, we are pleased to offer grants to selected applicants representing any public or private elementary school in San Diego County. The Village Garden Club of La Jolla's Schoolyard Gardening Grant Committee will determine the individual amounts awarded to each recipient.
If you are interested in applying for a grant, please submit your grant application by
December 15, 2007 . All applications must be submitted by email to: macurray@ucsd.edu
Rules and Regulations:
1. All applications must be received by email by the deadline date of December 15, 2007 to be considered.

2. The text of the application must not exceed two pages. Applicants may attach an additional page of landscape designs, photos or drawings to further explain the garden plans. No other materials will be considered.

3. To be considered, approval from the principal must be sent in a separate email.

4. Only one grant will be awarded per school.

5. Only San Diego County public and private elementary schools (K-6) are eligible. No preschools or schools outside of the County will be considered.

Please include the following items in your application.

1. The name, address including the zip code, phone number and email of the elementary school and email address of the garden coordinator.

2. A list of names and responsibilities of those involved in the leadership of the project plus contact information including phone number and/or email address.

3. A description of the garden/project including size, theme, whether your gardening program is new, continuing, expanding or a restoration, a generic plant selection (no need to list each plant) and curriculum uses.

4. Planned student involvement: total school population; number of children and classrooms that will be participating directly in the program; grade levels of participants; actual hands-on gardening experiences in which the children will be involved.


5. A description of any aspect of your garden program and/or school that you feel is unique, or any circumstance that makes your program especially deserving of a schoolyard gardening grant.

6. A description of specific earth-friendly elements, which are or will be part of your gardening program.

7. Planned community involvement: A description of those who will be involved outside of teachers and parents.


8. Any accomplished work to date.

9. A list of your projects' needs and priorities and how the funds will be allocated.

10. A signature by the Project Captain and the School Principal.

11. Payee information (to whom should the check be made out).

By including all the information requested above in your application, you are greatly increasing your chances of receiving a grant. The selection criterion corresponds to these points.
If you receive a grant from the Village Garden Club of La Jolla this year, we would like to stay in touch with you, visit your school and share your progress with our members.
