For a quarter of a century, Laura Hoke has been a dedicated and productive contributor toward the advancement of garden club projects and objectives in Palomar District in California. She is one of a select few who has served as president of two Garden Clubs in Palomar District. First, when she resided in Encinitas in 1980, she joined the San Dieguito Garden Club and later was elected president. During her presidency, San Dieguito Garden Club placed a Blue Star Memorial By-Way Marker at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas in a ceremony replete with a Marine contingent and a high school band. For seven years, Laura chaired San Diequito Garden Club's Standard Flower Show held at Quail Botanical Gardens. Later, after moving to Blossom Valley in El Cajon in 1992, Laura joined The Village Garden Club of La Jolla, which met at her church in La Jolla. Laura was elected president of The Village Garden Club of La Jolla for the 1996-1997 term. For 25 years, Laura has been a delegate to meetings of Palomar District, Inc. and currently is serving in her third year as chairman of the Habitat for Bald Eagles fundraising effort for Palomar District. She chaired the state's Judges Council, heading a panel that selected CGCI's Floral Arranger of the Year and the winners among Junior Flower Arrangements and Photography entrants. Earlier, she served for two years as co-chair of CGCI's National Members' Services Committee. A Master Flower Show Judge, Laura is a member of the National Council of Flower Show Judges and the Southwestern Judges Council. She served for two years as chairman of the Southwestern Judges Council and three years as their treasurer. With her genteel tactfulness and Tennessean charm, she has lovingly instilled an understanding of the principles of floral design among scores of garden club members. She actively supports Palomar District's Floral Design Forum and rarely misses a session. Laura holds Life Memberships in both National Garden Clubs, Inc. and California Garden Clubs, Inc. Laura's passion and skill for floral design, her enthusiasm for gardening and her appreciation of nature's beauty significantly characterize her life's pursuits along with her deep devotion and loyalty toward her husband, their two children, five grandchildren, numerous friends and her church.
