VILLAGE GARDEN CLUB SWEEPS AWARDS NIGHT AT
CGC CONVENTION
by Ann Zahner

The Village Garden Club won nine coveted awards for 2004 at the California Garden Clubs, Inc. Convention in Sacramento this past June. Among the awards were six first places, one second place, a Certificate of Appreciation from National Garden Clubs, Inc. and a Certificate of Achievement from CGCI, designating VGCLJ a “Blue Ribbon Winner.” Our entries in the following categories won CGCI blue ribbons: Club Programs, (Connie Brown); Club Yearbook (Barbara Berman); Club Field Trips/Touring (Mary Ellen Fleischli and Angel Kleinbub); Club Website (Betsy Grasso); and One-Time Event ~ Conservation (won by Ruth Barnett's marvelous Earth-Friendly Gardening Workshop). Our Club's 2004-2005 Yearbook also won first place for the Pacific Region, competing against entries from garden clubs in eight states. Our outstanding newsletter, The Spindrifter, won second place in the CGCI competition. A total of $235 in prize money accompanied the Club's six first place awards. Sincere congratulations to the Chairs listed above for all their hard work for the benefit of our Club!

Co-chairs Alice Coyne and Barbara Jefferson ask volunteers with writing, photography or scrapbooking skills to join the Awards Committee. To illustrate what is involved, “Books of Evidence” compiled to support the award applications, along with the judges' comments and our nine Award Certificates will be on display at the September meeting.
